Frequently asked questions

Useful answers before we get started

A straightforward guide to our service area, working process, documentation, training and quotations.

Where is MacSafety Solutions based?

MacSafety Solutions is based in County Down and supports construction projects and businesses throughout Northern Ireland. Travel and delivery arrangements are confirmed for each commission.

Who do you work with?

Our services are intended for principal contractors, subcontractors, developers, clients, designers, project managers and small-to-medium businesses that need practical health and safety support.

What information do you need to provide a quotation?

Start with the service required, location, scope of work, project stage, available information and target date. For training, include the topic and number of learners. For documentation, include any client template, drawings, programme and review deadline. We will identify any further information needed.

Can you prepare RAMS from a short scope of work?

We can start from a clear work scope, but RAMS need enough information about the task, sequence, location, people, plant, tools, substances, access and interfaces to be site-specific. We will not invent missing construction methods or project conditions.

Can you use our company or client template?

Usually, yes. Send the editable template and any guidance at the quotation stage. We will confirm whether the required format is suitable and whether additional information or sections are needed.

Do you prepare Construction Phase Plans?

Yes. Construction Phase Plans are prepared around the project arrangements, site rules, responsibilities, significant risks and planned controls. The Principal Contractor or contractor responsible for the plan must provide and verify the project information needed for the document.

Does MacSafety Solutions act as Principal Designer?

The service currently presented on this website is Principal Designer advisory support. It can assist a client, appointed Principal Designer or design team, but it does not transfer the formal appointment or statutory duties. Any different role would need to be expressly agreed in writing following a separate competence, scope and insurance review.

What is the difference between an audit and an inspection?

An inspection normally focuses on conditions and activities observed in a workplace or on site at a point in time. An audit generally examines a wider set of arrangements and evidence against an agreed scope. We can help decide which is more useful for the issue you need to address.

What should we do immediately after a serious incident?

Prioritise emergency response, medical care and making the area safe. Follow your internal escalation arrangements and protect relevant evidence where it is safe and appropriate. Statutory notifications should not be delayed while waiting for an investigation consultant. Contact us as early as practical if independent support may be needed.

What is needed for face-fit testing?

Tell us the number of wearers and the make, model, type and size of the tight-fitting RPE to be tested. Wearers will receive preparation information in advance, including requirements around the sealing area of the face. Testing confirms fit for the specific wearer and facepiece presented; it does not replace selecting suitable RPE for the hazard.

Do your training courses include certificates?

Any attendance record or certificate provided will be stated clearly in the quotation for the specific course.

How quickly can you complete the work?

Timescales depend on the scope, information available, site location and current capacity. Send the genuine deadline when you enquire. We will confirm what can be achieved before you commit.

Can you guarantee approval by a client or regulator?

No consultant can reasonably guarantee another organisation’s approval or a regulatory outcome. We can prepare and review the agreed work carefully, respond to relevant comments within scope and make limitations or outstanding decisions clear.

Do you offer one-off and ongoing support?

Yes. A commission can cover a single site visit, document, investigation or training requirement, or a defined period of project support. The scope, deliverables, availability and fee are agreed in advance.

Still unsure what level of support you need?

Describe the project or issue in your own words. We will help turn it into a clear brief.
